What is the role of a Maternity Baby Nurse?
A Maternity Baby Nurse will help to provide a smooth introduction to helping you and your new baby/babies settle into family life. She will advise and support with feeding your baby, as well as taking care of all baby’s physical needs including bathing, changing, and settling baby after a feed, and also taking care of baby’s laundry and nursery duties. A Maternity Baby Nurse has a wealth of experience and can be a great source of guidance and advice, not only about the wellbeing of your baby, but also ensuring that as a new mother, you are receiving plenty of rest. She will encourage your involvement to help develop confidence in handling your baby, establishing routines, and will happily demonstrate in a practical manner, any duties and responsibilities associated with neo-natal infant care.
Our service is highly flexible in order to meet your needs, however most 24 hour Maternity Baby Nurses will prefer to work a 5 or 6 day week. The Maternity Baby Nurse will additionally require rest and recuperation periods as appropriate for example if they have had a sleepless night. |
Are Maternity Baby Nurses qualified Nurses?
Whilst many of our Maternity Baby Nurses are medically qualified, e.g. Midwives, RGNs, Health Visitors, this is not necessarily the case with all of our practitioners, some of whom hold other professional qualifications, e.g. NNEB. You may be assured however that all our Maternity Baby Nurses are highly experienced infant care specialists, and that we will aim to provide you with a practitioner exactly matching your requirements |
When should I start to look for a Maternity Baby Nurse?
In order to afford yourselves the highest degree of flexibility, we would recommend that you discuss your requirements with us between 3 and 6 months before the birth of your baby. This allows us to match your needs as closely as possible, whilst allowing you to engage the Maternity Baby Nurse of your choice. We understand however that there are very many things to think about when planning for your new baby, and for this reason, we are able to work in partnership with you at short notice when required. |
How long can I book a Maternity & Baby Nurse for?
The choice is yours, however our families generally book a Maternity Baby Nurse for between 4 and 6 weeks. We understand of course that sometimes this may exceed the requirements of an individual family, and for this reason we offer a high degree of flexibility. We are therefore able to offer shorter or longer periods depending on your requirements. |
What other services do you provide?
At mayfair maternity, we offer an individually tailored service to meet the exact requirements of your family. Some families for example, may require breastfeeding advisors, night Maternity Baby Nurses, or sleep consultants |
What if our baby has Special Needs or is on a Monitor?
At mayfair maternity, our Maternity Baby Nurses have a wealth of experience in caring for babies with wide ranging needs and requirements. Therefore we will always be able to undertake a search for a infant care specialist who meets your specific needs. |
What hours do Maternity Baby Nurses work?
We offer a 24 hour per day, 5 or 6 day per week service, however we also understand that some families will not require such intensive support. We are therefore able to offer Maternity Baby Nurses who work days only, nights only, or a mixture of this. Any Maternity Baby Nurse will however need some time to rest and recuperate, especially after a sleepless night, and it would be expected that you will allow for this. Your exact requirements can of course be discussed with us in full when making your choice at this very important time. |
How do I engage a Maternity Baby Nurse?
After discussing your requirements with us in full and being advised of our services and fees, we will locate a Maternity Baby Nurse to meet your needs. We will put you in contact with your prospective Maternity Baby Nurse, in order for you to arrange to meet each and conduct your own interview. The Maternity Baby Nurse will bring their portfolios with them to the interview and we will also forward the relevant documentation, references etc. that we hold on file. If you decide to proceed with the Maternity Baby Nurse proposed by us, you will then advise us of your decision. You are of course able to arrange with your Maternity Baby Nurse the possibility of them being present at your home for a day or two prior to your discharge from hospital, again depending on your requirements. |
